Darbar Festival always presents the very best of classical music to our audience, in this case we present the very best of Carnatic music from south India, in this amazing performance by one of the the best Carnatic vocalists, Aruna Sairam.

Aruna is well known for her spellbinding singing, she is one of the leading voices to emerge from the Carnatic tradition of southern India and has a rich repertoire of beautiful and rare classical compositions as well as lighter folk forms and melodies. Aruna’s concerts attract crowds that create “traffic jams around the auditorium.”

Accompanying Aruna in this amazing performance, are a trio of Carnatic heavy weights, you hear some of the best Carnatic music in this concert played by Jyotsna Shrikanth on violin, Patri Satish Kumar on mridangam, RN Prakash on ghatam and Priya Parkash on tanpura.

In this recording Aruna performs a Raga from the Carnatic tradition during Darbar Festival 2009, Southbank Centre, London.
